Reflective Voices - Our NHStories Project

An illustration created for a CD cover, designed for the Air Arts EP. The cover is inspired by the song writing of Jamie & Rosie Rutherford, which in turn was inspired by the experiences of NHS staff. The EP cover was used as a large scale backdrop installation for performances of music. These performances were part of the national Our NHStories project, led by the Artistic Director of Young Vic Theatre, Kwame Kier- Armah. A projection of the performance was used in the opening of the finale celebration at Aviva Studios, Manchester.

Buck

Product Brief: Design for a new label for English Wine Project's cider products. This is what the owner asked me to come up with to be used as a concept on the label:  'Buck' is the ageless spirit of the ancient Derbyshire landscape, a being that is a balance of both life and death, a symbol of the cyclical journey of nature. Buck's antlers are made up of tiny forms, from the golden crab apples and oak acorns to the purple hairstreak butterfly and caterpillars all living within him.  He came alive from my nib & ink straight away, although his skull face might like startling, the bright eyes show the beating heart of life inside. The inspiration for Buck was a mixture of folklore, history , a lifelong fascination in anatomy and the nature found in Darley Park.

King and Queen of the Orchard

Commissioned by English Wine Company, two labels celebrating English cider. The designs feature guardians of the old orchards, whose anatomy is made up of a mixture of the nature found in orchards and symbolism in the natural history identified in different fruit types such as the fox and ram skulls represented. 'King of the Orchard' is also a portrait of the Artist's father, who spent amongst wildlife, fishing and was fond of a cider in the Summer.  The original design for 'Queen of the Orchard' is on permanent display at the English Wine Company's premises. The ciders are on sale at numerous locations across Derbyshire including Chatsworth House.
